Zones of Education - Community Ed Night
Last week, many families gathered to learn how to support their students emotionally using the Zones of Regulation. We shared a pizza dinner together, and then kids played in the gym while adults watched the program. School counseling and social work staff - Mr. Edwards, Ms. Curtis, and Ms. Ellefson - described the Zones of Regulation system used at school and discussed how it could be applied at home. We also enjoyed meeting Mr. Edwards' young son, who helped with the program!
If you missed the presentation or would like to learn more, you can find Zones of Regulation materials online HERE.
A big thank you to everyone who helped with this event, including counseling/social work staff for putting together a wonderful presentation, Advisory Council Representative Annie Backman and Samantha Cakir for coordinating the event, many teachers and staff for their assistance, SAPSA for providing dinner, and Karen Paulsen and Julie MacGregor for leading the fun childcare team.
We would like to hold more events like this in the future, and we gathered some ideas for topics from the attendees last week. If folks have ideas for topics to learn about in a similar format, we would love to hear them! Please email ideas to advisory@sapsamn.org.
Family Friday
February 17th at 7:15-7:45AM
Please join us this Friday to honor National African American Parent Involvement Day. Please accompany your children to school and stop in the cafeteria to enjoy a cup of coffee and treats with fellow parents, guardians and staff. This is a great opportunity to meet informally with Dr. Duke and Ms. Haas and to visit classrooms. Family Fridays are potluck-style. You can let organizers know you plan to contribute or lend a hand here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805084da4ac2da0fa7-family1#/
SAP Luminary Festival
The SAP Luminary Festival is coming up soon, and we are so excited! There will be a performance by fire dancers again this year. We hope to see you there!
Organizers need about 25 more volunteers to help set things up during the day on the 25th. Kids are welcome to help with participating adults. The volunteer sign-up is here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805084da4ac2da0fa7-luminary3#/
